Dean Holbrook is a minor antagonist of Season 3 of the Netflix Original TV series 13 Reasons Why. He is a wealthy popular football player at Crestwood High who becomes Bryce Walker's bully.

What Makes Him a Scrappy?

• Much like Mr. de la Cruz, he is a Hate Sink who is used as a plot device to make a previously horrible character more sympathetic. This fails since the show tries to make him the worse of the two being compared to Bryce Walker, a serial rapist, while Dean's only actions amount to generic bullying and one molestation.
• The narrative tries to treat him bullying Bryce as him being completely in the wrong, which many fans disagree with and think he should have every right to bully Bryce for his actions. It doesn’t help that he is bullying Bryce specifically because he is a serial rapist. This is also done at the point before Bryce started trying to atone for his actions and was still a remorseless rapist, making Bryce's bullying even less sympathetic despite the show trying to treat Bryce's bullying as sympathetic.
• He is a super flat and uninteresting stereotype who adds nothing to the plot other than bullying Bryce or molesting Jessica to prove how hypocritical he is, which is never even used to make a message about the hypocritical standards of rape culture or add anything to the plot. After this he is completely forgot about and never mentioned again.
