What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- Fans of the original Gennai found the character confusing. His backstory and motivation to commit evil acts aren’t very developed. Even he posing as the Digimon Emperor has no explanation, which made the viewers question why would he need to do that.
- Critics argue that his motivations, such as loyalty to King Drasil, lacked nuance and felt underdeveloped.
- His sadistic and lecherous behavior felt excessive and unnecessary to some viewers.
- His enjoyment of others' suffering, like laughing at Meiko's despair, alienated some fans.
- His abilities, like teleportation and shapeshifting, were seen as overly convenient for the plot.
- His ultimate objectives, like rebooting the Digital World, were criticized as convoluted or poorly explained.
- Some felt his actions overshadowed other characters and disrupted the narrative flow.
- His appearance, including the black robes and pale blue eyes, was divisive among fans.
- His allegiance to King Drasil was seen as a weak link in the story.
- His actions against the DigiDestined, like turning off life support, were viewed as unnecessarily cruel.
- Some fans felt his presence detracted from the focus on the DigiDestined and their Digimon partners.
- The mixed reception of the series itself may have influenced opinions on Dark Gennai.
