Darcy the Duck (nee Lewis) is a recurring character in the anthology television series What If...?
She is a human scientist who accompanied Jane Foster to Las Vegas to obverse Party Thor's planetwide rager. She would later embark on an intergalactic journey to protect her child, Byrdie, from villains looking to harness her cosmic power.
She was voiced by Kat Dennings.
What Makes Her a Scrappy?[]
- For some reason, the writers decided to dedicate an entire episode to her and Howard, who are mostly unpopular side characters, instead of something like Storm or the Avengers.
- She is in a relationship with Howard, who is a duck. This borders on bestiality, yet the show tries to play this off as a wholesome relationship.
- Even more ridiculous, she somehow manages to lay an egg containing her and Howard's child, even though a duck and human wouldn't be able to reproduce together, and humans certainly cannot lay eggs.
- She is a very flat character, as her personality doesn't go beyond being smart and being "quirky".
- Her attempts at humor come off more as annoying than anything, such as her Top Gun references to Captain Marvel.
- She doesn't contribute at all to the Party Thor episode and could have been cut out without changing anything. She even tries to B.S. Jane into owing her of fifty something undisclosed as an Establishing Character moment.
- The scene where she and Howard sing I Was Made for Lovin' You to Byrdie's egg was long and cringeworthy.
- She somehow manages to create interdimensional travel, despite being a single human with limited resources.
Trivia[]
- While her appearance in "What if... Thor Were an Only Child?" wasn't particularly well-received, she only became a Scrappy in "What If... Howard the Duck Got Hitched" due to her reproducing with Howard.
