NOTE: This article is specifically about Chase Young's portrayal in "Xiaolin Chronicles", as his "Xiaolin Showdown" incarnation is beloved by fans.

Chase Young is one of the main villains of Xiaolin Chronicles. He is a skilled martial artists who used to work for the Xiaolin side until he chose to follow a dark path. Unlike the original series, he has an ally named Shadow.

What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]

  • Many people think he lacks the charm his Xiaolin Showdown incarnation had. Instead of being a cunning and crafty villain with more clear motives that almost always comes up on top, he's an arrogant dude who is mainly evil for the sake of evil and he has numerous plans that fail.
  • Many people find his flirtatious relationship with Shadow disturbing due to the reveal Chase created her using his rib, essentially making her his daughter.
  • Fans of the original series were not pleased how Chronicles retconned his backstory and reason for turning evil. Instead of Hannibal manipulating him using his desire to be the best and convincing him that Master Monk Guan was the reason he couldn't achieve that unless he turns to the Heylin side, he chooses to change sides out of petty jealousy that his brother Eon became a Xiaolin Dragon before him by "stealing" his dragon.
  • There is an infamous episode where he literally lays an egg. His characterization in this episode is especially disliked because, besides doing a really bizarre thing that should be biologically impossible, he acts very cringe and out-of-character, especially since in the following episodes he goes back to being a tyrant.
  • The reveal at the end of the aforementioned episode that he and Omi are family comes out of nowhere and it's never mentioned for the rest of the series, making the entire reveal pointless.
  • Some people criticize him for calling Shen Gong Wu "doohickies" instead of "trinkies" like he does in the original series. He also goes against his belief that he doesn't need Shen Gong Wu far more often, which has also been criticized.
  • Some people find his design unappealing, particularly how he looked like when he was still good.
