Chōchō Akimichi is a supporting protagonist in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. She is a Leaf Shinobi and daughter of Choji Akimichi.
What Makes Her a Scrappy?[]
- She is very annoying and constantly the center of childish fat jokes which are meant to be funny. She is also unintentionally an offensive representation of proud fat people.
- Acts rude, spoiled, arrogant, obnoxious and somewhat perverted as her main personality trait, never showing much maturity or growth. This makes it impossible to root for her for fans when they give her heroic moments or play her sympathetically.
- Her unlocking her Butterfly mode is done in the stupidest way possible. While her father has a fantastic moment of sacrificing himself to stop a dangerous Sound Four terrorist to help his friends, hers makes no sense and comes completely out of nowhere as her mentor Anko (who is supposed to be a very skilled jonin) gets kidnapped by a bunch of random thugs for plot convenience, only for Chōchō to unlock her butterfly mode to use on them. Having her unlock her butterfly mode because of a bunch of random thugs in a filler arc is extremely wasted and poorly written, which could have been better done like her father's.
- She has a mini-arc where she falls in love with an actor who seems like an adult and much older than her, then trying to have a relationship with him, which the show never seems to address as weird or pedophilic.
- She serves no purpose to the actually plot and acts mostly as an interruption during important arcs like when Sarada reunites with her father after a decade, where she is just comic relief the entire time, even though it detracts from the more interesting plot.
