Pointless

Characters that audiences deem as pointless, unnecessary, or out of place, typically due to them not serving much to the plot. These characters are typically added in as a result of executive meddling, attempting to appeal to a specific demographic, or actively trying to create an ensemble dark horse.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Being a pointless character in itself doesn't make someone a scrappy, in fact, several ensemble dark horses characters also tend to fall under this category. However, this is usually a contributing factor, especially if the character is deemed annoying, edgy or offensive, and can be cut from the media they're from without signficantly changing the story.
