“ | Being a pickpocket’s fine and all, but I got real potential. | „ |
~ Cassandra Cain |
Cassandra "Cass" Cain is deuteragonist of Birds of Prey. She is a young thief in Gotham City who was being hunted by Black Mask for stealing the Bertinelli diamond from his right-hand, Victor Zsasz. After killing Black Mask, she would then become the apprentice of Harley Quinn and a part of her Associates.
She was portrayed by Ella Jay Basco.
What Makes Her a Scrappy?[]
- Mainly, she's nothing like comic book version. Instead of daughter of assassins David Cain and Lady Shiva, who was deprived of speech and human contact during her childhood as conditioning to become the world's greatest assassin, and eventually become a member of Bat-Family, she is a twelve-year-old speech-capable pickpocket who lives with neglectful foster parents and idolizes Harley Quinn.
- Even Gail Simone considered her as one of the film's negative points despite enjoying the movie otherwise.
- While more of a plot issue, she was still criticized for eating the diamond. The viewers would have liked other ways to have Harley connect with someone other than waiting for the diamond to pass through their bowels.
- Many fans also consider her to be very annoying throughout the film.
Trivia[]
- This is so far the only version of Cassandra Cain that is classified as a Scrappy.
- Similar to the treatment of Zilla from the 1998 Godzilla film and The Boiled One from the Minecraft mod by _gods_will_, fans of the comic-version of Cassandra Cain have started referring to her film counterpart as "Kassandra Kain" to make her more distinct and separate from the original.
