NOTE: This page only covers information on the television incarnation of Candy Kong as her video game counterpart is considered to be a fan favorite. |
Candy Kong is a character from the Donkey Kong Country television series. She is the girlfriend of Donkey Kong and is an employee of Bluster Kong's at Bluster Barrelworks.
What Makes Her a Scrappy?[]
- First and foremost, this version of Candy Kong looks absolutely nothing like her video game counterpart and not only is the redesign unnecessary, but she also looks much more hideous than attractive. It could have gone to another character with Candy keeping her game design and nothing would change, nor would it have hurt Candy's reputation.
- Her personality is nothing like the original either; instead of being a sweet, kind, and loving character who cares for and loves Donkey Kong, this version she acts like a spoiled child most of the time and she always gets angry at Donkey Kong and blaming him for all kinds of things, even if they are not his fault and even when she sees the real culprit (in I Spy With My Hairy Eye, she callously disbelieves Donkey Kong’s truthful claim that an invisible Diddy Kong stole the banana cream pie she made for Cranky Kong and assumes he ate it and later, even though it was clearly Diddy Kong who kicked the pie she made for Donkey Kong in her face, believing she was Candy Clone, she angrily blames the latter and shoves the remains in his face, even though he did nothing), she still gets mad at him anyway. That said, she has a very short temper that explodes at even the most minor provocation essentially making her very petty.
- She is also notable for her being ungrateful for even the good things DK has done for her, on "Bad Hair Day", Donkey Kong was trying to make her day on her birthday, and she rejects the gifts offered to her and she rejects him as well. After finding Donkey Kong, when she gives him a present and Donkey chooses the Candy clone's gift instead, she throws a tantrum and throws it at DK, which already did enough damage that made her unsympathetic due to her earlier actions and ruined her own birthday, while on the other hand, it's much easier to feel bad for DK for putting up with her.
- The most infamous example would be in Kong For A Day, where she slips on a banana peel and assumes it's Donkey Kong’s despite it be Crusher's doing. She then breaks up with him over this minor slight.
- Even when she does have a few good moments, such as her dance with DK, they are extremely rare to come by since it's easily overshadowed by how terrible of a girlfriend, she is to poor Donkey Kong.
- This Candy has garnered so much hate that even the late Erika Strobel, the prolific writer of the series wrote that she also hated her with a passion.
