~ Byrdie to Kahori when they are playing table football |
Byrdie The Duck is a major character in the third and final season of What If…?.
The hybrid daughter of Darcy Lewis and Howard the Duck from Earth-72124, she is a member of the Guardians of the multiverse along with Captain Carter, Kahhori, and Storm. She and Kahhori are two of the original characters in What If…?.
She is voiced by Natasha Lyonne.
What Makes Her a Scrappy?[]
- Her origin is completely ridiculous as she is the daughter of Darcy Lewis and Howard the Duck. And for no reason forces across the galaxy attempt to steal the egg. Brydie even killed every enemy on the battlefield to defend herself and her parents once she was hatched.
- Her existence feels weird to the viewers given that human women don't have the duck DNA to lay eggs in the first place.
- Compared to Kahhori, another original character from the same show, Byrdie barely has any character development, as the show skips the process of how Brydie got her power and go straight into adulthood. This makes her character feel empty.
- She also speaks in a stereotypic tone, make her somewhat of a stereotypical girly girl.
- When she is going to be defeated by Eminence, Incarnate, and Executioner, she and rest of the Guardians intone the Watcher’s oath to gain superpowers. It breaks the power balance of the entire MCU as fans feel the way of gaining power will be too easy.
- Many fans were understandably annoyed that the writers decided to waste an episode on a badly written original character instead of focusing on an episode for characters like Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, or even Kang the Conqueror.
- Some viewers even believe that her episode took away the opportunity for the writers to do an episode showing how Storm obtained Mjolnir, which was universally acknowledged as a far better story idea than Byrdie's episode.
