Buzzy the Crow is a character who starred in a few Noveltoons shorts made by Famous Studios.
He was voiced by the late Jackson Beck.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- He is an offensive stereotype of African Americans, a blatant copy of Jim Crow from Walt Disney's Dumbo.
- His singing sucks, as shown when he sings a dreadfully off-key rendition of Small Fry in "The Awful Tooth".
- He regularly addresses Katnip as "boss", which gets old very fast.
- Just about every cartoon he stars in has him facing off against Katnip who is usually battling some kind of ailment (i.e. toothache, cold, or hiccups), which immediately takes the humor out of the situation.
- When paired with Herman, at least Katnip was physically fit. If one were to put themselves in Katnip's shoes, the poor feline has it hard enough trying to regain his health without this sadistic crow trying to kill him as well.
- It would be one thing if Buzzy found an actual cure for Katnip's ailments and the ungrateful feline decided to eat him anyway, but the crow always seems to turn it into a chance to inflict suffering on Katnip.
- With the exception of "Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow", most shorts end with Buzzy coming out on top, while Katnip still has an injury or sickness to contend with, sometimes even ending up dead.
- All of these factors make him just as bad as Herman, if not worse.
- He smiles evilly a few times while torturing Katnip in shorts such as "Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow" and "No Ifs, Ands or Butts".
- To some, it's no wonder he was only paired with Katnip in 7 shorts.
- Along with Herman and Katnip, the shorts featuring Buzzy are just another example of how Famous Studios failed to figure out what actually made cartoon violence funny.
