Buck is a major character of Home on the Range.
He is horse eager for action and glory, which is why he wants to catch the criminal Alameda Slim.
He was voiced by Cuba Gooding, Jr.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- He was meant to be a funny and exciting rival, but actually comes across as an annoying and selfish fool.
- As a result, many fans don't like him because he is too hyperactive and quite annoying, such as the scene where he imagines that he is fighting against crooks.
- He is very self-centered, pompous, egomaniac and selfish.
- In fact, the only reason he decided to capture Alameda Slim is to show his idol Rico that he is cool and competent, but little did Buck know that the cows need to capture Slim because that is the only way to save the farm, which Buck didn't care about at first.
- He is obnoxious, annoying and uninteresting character who made some of the worst jokes and was thrown in just for extra conflict, which really wasn't necessary.
- Even though Cuba Gooding Jr did a solid job voicing the character, the role of Buck was somewhat a wasted talent by Gooding Jr, considering that his high pitch shrills can be quite annoying for detractors.
- Overall, his selfish and immature behavior makes him one of the least loved characters and many view him as one of the reasons why Home on the Range was criticized as one of (if not) the weakest Disney films and how it led to the film’s mediocre critical performance and commercial failure.
- Even some people who like or don’t mind the movie also seem to hate him as well.
