Bryce Walker is the main antagonist of 13 Reasons Why. He is a popular and wealthy jock at Liberty High who infamously rapes multiple women, including Hannah Baker, making him responsible for her death.

He was portrayed by Justin Prentice as a teenager, and by Ronan Carroll as a child.

What Makes Him a Scrappy?

• While not particularly criticized in the first two seasons, he started to receive criticism in season 3, where he starts to feel remorse for his actions and is portrayed in a more sympathetic light. This is considered by viewers to be out of nowhere, since he was formerly portrayed as irredeemable.
• Him being bullied at his new school by Dean Holbrook and others is meant to be sympathetic but falls completely flat when it is considered that he is a serial rapist and being bullied specifically because of that.
• A major criticism he receives is that many characters start to feel sympathy for him, which is considered by many people to be unrealistic given what he did to them.
  • This is prominent with Jessica Davis, whom he had raped. Many viewers found her forgiving him as offensive.
• While Justin Prentince’s performance is considered good, this is not enough to prevent him from being a Scrappy, especially when most of the appeal came from how vastly different Bryce's personality was from Justin's before Season 3.
