I hadn't just survived. I was reborn. This was my life!
~ Bobby's most famous line is a complete lie.
Today, these lies will come full circle and you will learn if you truly have what it takes to call yourself a survivor.
~ Jigsaw lied to the Audience: Bobby never learned if he could survive, he only learned that he cannot rescue.

Bobby Dagen is the main protagonist of Saw 3D. He was the final Jigsaw victim of Mark Hoffman. Bobby was chosen by Jigsaw because he created a fake survival story about passing a Jigsaw test and exploited this lie to achieve public fame. This led him and his friends (due to being affiliated with his made-up story) to be trapped in a Jigsaw game and tested for real.

He was portrayed by Sean Patrick Flanery.

What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]

  • First of all: Bobby's trial is completely unimportant in this movie, as the main focus is on Jill Tuck trying to escape Mark Hoffman, who tries to get his revenge for Jill's attempt to kill him.
    • Many fans deemed his trial to exist simply to extend the film and as an uninteresting interruption from the main story.
  • In contrary to all the other main protagonists who have true impacts on the story, (e.g. Jeff Denlon [who controversially killed John Kramer] or William Easton [who declined John the important health insurance to cure his cancer]) Bobby has absolutely nothing to do with Jigsaw in any way apart from wanting to capitalize from his story.
  • Fans deemed his reason to be targeted by Jigsaw to be by far the blandest and stupidest way of any Saw-candidate. He was targeted because while he was drunk with his friend Cale, he saw an interview of a Jigsaw survivor and then he decided to write a book about an imagined escape.
    • Even when he wasn't drunk, he thought it would be a good idea to write not only a book but to use this fame for many public interviews in talk shows, a national tour, autograph sessions and even to talk to real test survivors. All the while, Jigsaw is still active on a testing spree. That's why many fans call him the most idiotic character in the entire franchise.
    • While he isn't meant to be a hate sink and his actions did help some subjects, it's still clear that he didn't do that selflessly to help people. But only to boast his public image by lying to everyone, which is extremely detestable.
  • He stands out as the only Saw protagonist to not save even one person during their Trial. Even Jeff, who isn't the fastest one to act, did atleast save Judge Halden from his trap, meaning that not even "Slow-Ass Motherfucking Jeff" was as incompetent as Bobby.
    • To make things worse: Bobby seemed not to care even for his best friend as he seemed to be simply shocked how brutal his friends died. E.g. he simply screams at Nina that she just needed to shut up. In fact, Jeff seemed to be more sad about the death of the murderer of his son than Bobby was about the death of his friends. It's unknown if this was intentional to make Bobby more unsympathetic or if his actor, Sean Patrick Flanery, just did a pretty poor acting job there, but either way it makes him only more unlikeable.
    • Also, his trial itself doesn't make sense. If Jigsaw wanted him to prove himself that he could be a survivor, then why did Hoffman only place traps where he needs to save somebody and not really traps for Bobby himself. He only has two personal traps those being his first test in a cage with some dull and really simply avoidable spikes and the second to last test where he has to pull two of his teeth. Albeit the last one was painful, but it would be a miracle for Bobby not to survive.
  • By far the worst thing was that his loving and completely innocent wife died in one of the most painful traps in the Saw-Franchise. While his other friends knew that he was lying and covered it up, his wife Joyce Dagen never knew it and believed Bobby just like the public. This not only ruined the reputation of Mark Hoffman for some of the fans, but the fans were outraged at Bobby, because this death, like all the other ones in this movie, were only his fault.
    • Some fans even lost their interest in the whole Saw-series after this trap.
  • The producers seemingly gave up giving Bobby any kind of redemption or conclusion. The last scene of him was him witnessing his wife's death and since then after 14 years and three more Saw films, the audience still doesn't know what happened to him.
