NOTE: This page will only talk about Batman from Frank Miller's All Star Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder, as his All Star Batman version by Scott Snyder isn't a Scrappy, and his previous versions from Miller's Batman comics are better received. |
“ | What, are you dense? Are you r#tarded or something? Who the hell do you think I am? I'm the goddamn Batman! | „ |
~ Batman’s most infamous quote to Robin. |
Bruce Wayne, better known as Batman, is the main protagonist of All Star Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder written by Frank Miller.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- He’s often criticized by comic books fans for his characterization, which is seen as exaggerated and out of character.
- He has no hint of compassion. Unlike the original Batman, who was ready to show his emotions at the right time and help weak and defenseless children to become better than him, this version of the character simply insults Dick Grayson for his tragedy and weakness. Overall, his compassion towards Grayson is nonexistent.
- His plan to contain the Green Lantern was stupid, because he just painted the whole room and himself yellow and then beat up the Green Lantern, and it didn't even need to be done because he just had to talk to him. This plan was so complicated and pretentious that it doesn't make sense.
- Throughout the comic, he calls himself "The Goddamn Batman", which the readers found annoying. This has become the infamous meme the internet has now called him.
- Perhaps the worst thing he did was, firstly, he secretly followed Dick for a long time, which pretty much makes him a groomer, secondly, he kidnapped him and forced him to become his sidekick, thirdly, he locked him in a cold cave, which is why Dick had to eat dead rats. Because of Dick's terrible treatment, he became the new Joker and it was Batman's fault. This is yet another out of character moment.
- All these moments like the one above overall makes Batman seemed like an edgy teenager.
- Although him saying his infamous quote "goddamn" can be funny, it gets repetitive, boring, and overall unfunny since he uses it way too much to be enjoyed (alongside other characters). Plus, the people who liked the quote only liked it for how ironic it is, not because it is actually funny at the end.
- In the end, this is the worst adaptation of Batman, where everything that he was loved for is turned upside down, where all the positive qualities turn into the worst and exaggerated character traits. He also denigrates the original Batman from The Dark Knight Returns, because now all the good deeds that TDKR Batman did are nullified by this variation from the prequel. This Batman overall is a retcon to the said story.
Trivia[]
- He and the Epic Rap Battles of History's Batman are so far the only versions of Batman to be Scrappies. He's also the only official Scrappy version of Batman.
- He was so different from the original Batman and hated that he was called "Crazy Steve".
- His counterpart in the Dark Knight Returns doesn't count as a Scrappy due the fact that he's better received there.
- To highlight his Scrappy status, his writing has infamously caused him to be the only version of Batman that is not an alternate universe version (for example, The Batman Who Laughs) to have his own page on the Villains Wiki.
